The Perils, Pitfalls and Perks of Medical Education Research: Transforming Projects into Publications

Although an increasing number of academic physicians are interested in and encouraged to pursue medical education research, training on how to achieve success in this endeavor remains limited. Presented by members of the AAIM Medical Education Research Committee (MERC), this workshop will provide resources for members as they pursue scholarship in medical education. Presenters will introduce types of medical education research and opportunities for dissemination of information and publication. Participants will work through an example innovation from conception to data collection to publication with co-attendees. By the conclusion of this workshop, participants will be better equipped to identify challenges and brainstorm solutions for their own interventions and scholarly work. With presenters from different geographic regions, academic settings, and subspecialities, the workshop will be applicable to a broad range of educators, regardless of practice setting or skill level in medical education research. Participants will also learn about the ways that MERCcan support members as they pursue medical education research.
