Chief-Coordinator Relationship: A Walk in the (Jurassic) Park

The tasks for program management have become increasingly complex. Not only have the basic requirements of the job increased, but there is a higher expectation of the program by the institution and residents. As a result, the relationship between the program administrator and chief resident is critical to ensure efficiency and effectiveness. While program administrators do not often have a medical background, the teamwork between a chief resident physician and program administrator can greatly contribute to success of critical duties such as scheduling, educational conferences, and research. The session will utilize a traditional learning format with interactive components to engage and develop the audience. Participants will learn the role of a third-year chief resident compared to an administrator, how to effectively manage program duties as a team, and learn pragmatic tools to ensure program success including resident satisfaction, mitigating interprofessional issues and improving communication, and improve problem-solving.
