Forging Educator Identity Formation: How to Plan Faculty Development to Support the Professional Identity Formation of your Team of Educators
Details

Overview

Faculty Development programming has many goals aimed to improve educators knowledge, skills, and attitudes in multiple domains. One very important domain that is often undervalued is personal and professional development. Many faculty development programs focus only on teaching and learning, but given the myriad of responsibilities that CEs have, it would be remiss not to consider the educators growth and PIF. This workshop, presented by members of the AAIM Faculty development initiative task force, will guide participants on how to create faculty development programming for their clinician educator team focusing on the domain of personal and professional growth- specifically professional identity formation. Topics explored will include reflection, coaching, mentorship and communities of practice. Participants will gain an appreciation of the value of this domain to supporting their teams. This interactive workshop will equip participants with a practical faculty development planning tool focused on PIF. Presenters will guide participants through conducting needs assessments, identifying key focus areas, and developing strategies to overcome implementation barriers and ensure sustainable, longitudinal programs. Participants will engage in small and large group activities, review high-yield resources, and leave prepared to initiate or enhance faculty development within their university or community institution.
