Building for Success: Strategies for Creating a High-Functioning Residency Leadership Team
Details

Overview

This workshop will begin with a discussion of key principles of successful team functioning and leadership.  This will be followed by a brief review of FTE requirements for GME programs (including APDs and core faculty) and a discussion comparing and contrasting different ways to organize a program leadership team (site specific, task specific, etc).   Participants will work individually to complete a diagram of their current leadership structure, followed by group discussions on the pros and cons of different organizational structures.  Participants will then reflect on their current model to determine areas of duplication, under-delegation, and tasks/roles that remain unfilled or unclear.  Based on these insights, we will also consider opportunities for incorporation of funded core faculty into the leadership team.  We will have a group discussion to share themes and new insights.  Finally, we will close with strategies for both PDs and APDs to thoughtfully consider delegation of responsibilities and how to address common organizational challenges through effective team participation and leadership.
