Overview
With the ongoing push towards positive culture change across medical education, training programs are being held accountable to promote a positive clinical learning environment (CLE) for their trainees. While work hours and ‘wellness days’ have been hotly debated in the medical education community, we believe that having trainees themselves take a leadership role in creating a positive CLE gives them agency to promote the positive change they wish to see in their programs and institutions. At Weill Cornell Medicine (WCM) we have developed an interactive workshop that allows trainees to reflect on their own experiences to help them build best practices in creating a positive CLE using a standardized framework. The second part of the workshop introduces actionable interventions to address microaggressions in the CLE. Trainees work together in small groups to apply their skills to real clinical cases by thinking about preventative measures and strategies for intervention followed by a large group debrief. In this workshop, we will present our curriculum, brainstorm ways in which you can adapt our workshop to meet the needs of your home institution and share our resources to ensure your success. This workshop will provide both undergraduate and graduate medical educators a framework to improve trainee engagement in promoting a positive CLE through case-based skills practice.Speakers
