Overview
The recent mandate by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) for GME programs to allocate 0.1 full-time equivalent (FTE) of administrative time to core faculty to empower faculty in their educational roles. However, a lack of clear guidelines left many programs uncertain about how to best utilize this time. W will outline an innovative approach to addressing this problem drawing from our experience using the LEAN concept of “catch ball” as a framework for co-creating a mission statement tailored to the core faculty’s own goals. Through interactive discussion and case examples, we will highlight the iterative process that led to the development of our core faculty mission statement and resulting faculty development curriculum. Furthermore, we will present the results of our core faculty performance evaluation following implementation of this process to showcase how it effectively supports and optimizes the administrative time offered to core faculty members. We will invite participants to engage in a group catch ball exercise to draft a core faculty mission statement. Participants will then use the key elements of that mission statement to outline a one-year curriculum for faculty development. Participants will leave the session ready to co-create a mission statement and curriculum to support a culture of growth and ongoing faculty development at their home institutions.Speakers
