Develop Your CORE-2 for Career Flourishing

Develop Your CORE-2 for Career Flourishing

Course Overview

This career development and wellness webinar, pertinent for all AAIM members, presents a five-step framework for building career success upon a foundation of personal fulfillment: CORE-2 (Character strengths, Overall vision, Role assessment, Explicit goals, and Evaluation). Our framework is grounded in the fields of positive psychology and career coaching.
Step one is identification of character strengths - positive traits reflected in thoughts, feelings, and actions. To accomplish this, participants compete the VIA Character Strengths Survey. We explain how leveraging character strengths leads to flourishing and how flourishing is a prerequisite to career success.
Step two is creation of a professional vision statement (PVS) aligned with signature character strengths. We describe the rationale for a PVS and its ideal features. We share our PVS, and participants create a rough draft of their PVS.
Step three is evaluation of one's current and desired professional roles. Example roles include clinician, scholar, educator, and patient advocate. A PVS should reflect these roles.
Step four is development of SMART goals for each professional role, organized around a 1- and 5-year timeline. We define the components of SMART goals and the evidence supporting their effectiveness in professional development. We share our 1- and 5-year SMART goals, and participants develop their own 1- and 5-year SMART goals.
Step five is evaluation - regular reflection, revision, and recommitment to one's character strengths, PVS, professional roles, and corresponding SMART goals maintains flourishing.
